Divorce from Charlie Sheen

Denise RichardsOn April 19, 2006, Denise Richards filed for divorce from Charlie Sheen under the laws of the state of California.

In her 17-page court filing (not counting additional supporting evidentiary documents), Richards alleges that Sheen's behaviour was increasingly eratic, paranoid (including frequent conspiracy theories and other allegedly groundless ideas about such things as the 9/11 attacks being a United States government plot with no Muslim terrorist participation, bottle feeding a baby causing brain damage, and vaccinations), and threatening in nature, which made their marriage impossible. She states that she fears for her safety and the safety of their two daughters: Sam J. and Lola Rose.

Further she says that Sheen visited prostitutes (ex-porn star Chloe Jones amongst them) and was addicted to gambling, prescription drugs, and pornography. In regards to illegal prescription drug abuse, Charlie Sheen fraudulently obtained prescriptions by misrepresenting his medical condition(s), according to Richards. She even reveals that Charlie Sheen posted a picture of his erect penis on his online profile of a "sex-search type" website and that he frequently views pornography featuring, she says,

"very young girls, who looked underage to me, with pigtails, braces, no pubic hair, performing oral sex with each other,"

and other websites,

"involving gay pornography also involving very young men who also did not look like adults."

Denise Richards

Denise Richards goes on to allege that Charlie Sheen has become physically and verbally abusive and has threatened to kill her or have her killed. She even alleges that Charlie Sheen made thinly veiled threats both against their two daughters and her parents. Richards says that Sheen, who accidentally shot his previous fiancé, Kelly Preston, wanted to place firearms under their living room coffee table to protect them if they happened to be surprised by intruders.

Denise Richards has sought and received a restraining order against Sheen.

Charlie Sheen denied the allegations. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight co-anchor Mark Steines, he had this to say:

"I move forward and I maintain my integrity... and focus on my children. I'm deeply saddened because this is clearly demonstrating a wanting [sic] and willful attempt at what I describe as a radical and transparent smear campaign and clearly a departure from sound, sane, responsible co-parenting. It is a reaction to a failed marriage, a reaction to some twisted desire – real or imagined – to hurt, to punish, to discredit, to completely torpedo, to undermine my perception as a responsible father... a contributing father, a guy who would give his life for his children."

He added that Richards is,

"the only one entirely culpable for putting these radical allegations out for public consumption ... my children included."
