The is roughly 82 days left before the night of the ALMA Awards. Eva Longoria and actor Cristian de la Fuente were the two stars who gave a hand announcing the awards nominees. The 2008 ALMA Awards nominations were unveiled on Wisteria Lane at the Universal Studios Backlot in Universal City, Calif Monday, July 21. The actual awards will be be aired live on ABC on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 8 P.M. ET.

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S. NCLR created the ALMA Awards in 1995 as part of its strategy to promote fair, accurate, and balanced portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment industry. The show was named "ALMA" (Spanish for "spirit" or "soul") which represents the determined spirit of the Latino people in an effort to reflect the spirit as well as the scope of the awards program
