The Oscars 2009

02/22/09

We are live, bloging on the oscars 2009.

  • Apparently Anne Hathaway is wearing £1m worth of jewellery! No credit crunch for Hollywood's leading ladies.
  • Miley Cyrus is the first star to walk the red carpet - at least it guarantees maximum exposure while everyone waits for the nominees. The Disney star looks far older than her 16 years in an ornate silver gown.
  • We're in for a long night with the red carpet when the ceremony takes place at the Kodak theatre, LA. No one wants to arrive too early but the event organisers will have staggered the arrivals with pinpoint accuracy to avoid embarrassing collisions. Does this mean we won't get to see Brangelina bump into Jen Anniston and her new beau John Meyer? You never know!
  • Dominic Cooper of Mamma Mia! fame confirms he is taking to the stage but won't confirm exactly why. Rumours have it he's to perform - hopefully wearing spandex.
  • Zac Efron (rumoured to be dancing with host Hugh Jackman and Dominic Cooper) walks one step ahead of his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens, who likened herself to Audrey Hepburn in her fishtail black gown - don't think that will go down too well with Hepburn fans!
  • So, apparently past winners will be presenting awards to this year's winners. Potentially Angelina could be handing Brad an Oscar - weird!
  • The kids from Slumdog Millionaire have arrived, and are REALLY excited!
  • Freida Pinto and Dev Patel look very cosy working the red carpet together, but awkwardly trying to avoid questions about a rumoured real-life romance between the pair. Freida looks absolutely stunning in a deep blue dress.
  • Heidi Klum in a case of deja-vu is wearing red again this year - surely a fashion faux-pas?
  • Mickey Rourke is wearing a pendant round his neck with a picture of his dead dog on it. He explained the Chihuahua was the love of his life, and he'd told the 18-year-old pet that he would rather have two more years with him than win an Oscar! If he wins Best Actor will he dedicate it to his dog? Highly likely.
  • Ron Howard (up for Best Director for 'Frost Nixon') all but confirms Arrested Development will be made into a film
  • Sarah Jessica Parker is wearing what can only be described as a wedding gown, while on the arm of husband Matthew Boderick, clearly trying to put to bed the rumours of divorce.
  • Kate Winslet looks stunning, standing out from the crowd in a midnight blue dress while the theme of the evening seems to be white weddings gowns.
  • Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt arrived to screaming fans but the pair both played it safe in the fashion department wearing black.
  • The red carpet is over, the stars have been hussled inside, and we're waiting for the ceremony to begin. Rumour has it Jessica Biel did her own hair for the ceremony, maybe the credit crunch has hit some of the girls.
  • Reviewing the dresses for the fashion blog coming up later on. Tilda Swinton loves to shock with her dress choices, and this year is no different, with what looks like a sack for a top - but the real disaster goes to Sophia Loren whose hideous outfit looks to be embarrassing Meryl Streep while they have their photo taken together.
