Bettie Davis, Marilyn Munro, Elizabeth Taylor for sale.
The auctioneer for California's Movieland Wax Museum called it a chance "to own a celebrity." The museum's 43-year-old collection went on sale Saturday, attracting hundreds of movie fans.
The Southern California museum closed last Halloween, and about 500 display items were up for auction in person and online.
Wax figures included the likes of Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, Brad Pitt and Michael Jackson. A depiction of Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra fetched $25,000. A "Wizard of Oz" scene, with a likeness of Judy Garland, sold for $33,000.
Medical technician Chris Doohan was one bidder who went away disappointed. He'd hoped to buy the figure of his dad, James Doohan, who played Scotty in "Star Trek." But the bidding went past $4000, a little too rich for Doohan's wallet.
